I attended a MACHA Showcase game between Rowan University and Temple University (ACHA Div. II) on 12/4/10. Admission was $5 for the college game on Rink 1. There was a midget game on Rink 2, which was free. The two rinks are connected by a restaurant (which had an extensive menu and served beer!) which spans the two rinks at the top of the seating and is over the main concourse. I could have sneaked in to the college game for free through the restaurant, as there was no one checking hand stamps. This was the home ice for the Jersey Larks (1960-61) and Jersey Devils (1964-73) of the EHL, Jersey Knights (1973-74) of the WHA, and Jersey Aces (1978-79) of the NEHL. My father took me to my first game here in November 1972, Jersey Devils vs. Cape Cod Cubs. I remember the game being delayed because the Cape Cod team bus was late; and a puck went off my finger tips, still the closest I have come to getting a puck during a game. The arena was dismantled and moved to North Jersey in the early 80's. I am not sure if it is still standing or in what form. There is ample standing room. Temple's game presentation was the best I have witnessed of the Philadelphia area college/junior teams, with live national anthem, music during warmups and play stoppages, a clear PA with goals, penalties, and starting lineups announced, and a scorebaord with all of the essentials. The rink was constructed in 1956 for the Old York Road Skating Club. I attempted to go to 2 games here two seasons ago when the Jackals were the Philadelphia Thunder in the defunct NJHL. Both games were cancelled, allegedly because the opposing team chose to not make the road trip. I attended the December 4 home opener against Northern Virginia Community College. This was technically a Villanova home game, even though this is St. Joes' home rink. The two teams played the night before with St. Joes as the home team. The Skatium is the rink that is closest to Villanova's campus (about 5 miles away). Villanova is playing its home games this year at the Hatfield Ice Arena in Colmar, PA, which is approximately 25 miles from campus. The Villanova backup goalie (at center ice next to referee) was the only one who got the memo that this was a Nova home game. The arena, formerly known as the Dane County Coliseum, was the home ice of the University of Wisconsin Badgers from 1967 through 1998. For the 2014-15 season the 10,231 seat arena will be the home ice of the expansion Madison Capitols of the USHL. Formerly this was the home ice of the CoHL/UHL Madison Monsters (1995-1999) and UHL Madison Kodiaks for the 1999-2000 season. The photo was taken while stopped at a red light. My vegetarian wife and kids did not want to go to Brat Fest, so I didn't get a closer look. From the arena website I gather this is basically a community rink. It has 2 pads, Arena A appears to have seating on one side, and Arena B appears to have no seating. The Chill's average attendance of 656 for the 2013-14 season would appear to be near capacity. It was also the home ice of the USHL Sioux City Musketeers from 1972-79 as a Senior league, and 1979-2003 as a Junior league. Today the auditorium is the Long Lines Family Recreation Center. Also admission was $20 for myself and my two kids, which is a little steep for the ACHA, but was good for two games that day, the other being Delaware vs. Rhode Island. There is a heater above the seating, so it was quite comfortable to watch the game. The lounge was empty, but had a bar. It appears it could be rented for events. There is a snack bar on the first floor below the lounge. The fare was nothing special.
