I attended a MACHA Showcase game between Rowan University and Temple University (ACHA Div. II) on 12/4/10. Admission was $5 for the college game on Rink 1. There was a midget game on Rink 2, which was free. The two rinks are connected by a restaurant (which had an extensive menu and served beer!) which spans the two rinks at the top of the seating and is over the main concourse. I could have sneaked in to the college game for free through the restaurant, as there was no one checking hand stamps. This was the home ice for the Jersey Larks (1960-61) and Jersey Devils (1964-73) of the EHL, Jersey Knights (1973-74) of the WHA, and Jersey Aces (1978-79) of the NEHL. My father took me to my first game here in November 1972, Jersey Devils vs. Cape Cod Cubs. I remember the game being delayed because the Cape Cod team bus was late; and a puck went off my finger tips, still the closest I have come to getting a puck during a game. The arena was dismantled and moved to North Jersey in the early 80's. I am not sure if it is still standing or in what form. There is ample standing room. Temple's game presentation was the best I have witnessed of the Philadelphia area college/junior teams, with live national anthem, music during warmups and play stoppages, a clear PA with goals, penalties, and starting lineups announced, and a scorebaord with all of the essentials. The standing room in this corner is excellent, as the platform allowed my 4 year old son to see over the dasher board without me lifting him up, and was not in front of the seating. There was no game presentation, although the scoreboard had everything working. The rink was constructed in 1956 for the Old York Road Skating Club. I attempted to go to 2 games here two seasons ago when the Jackals were the Philadelphia Thunder in the defunct NJHL. Both games were cancelled, allegedly because the opposing team chose to not make the road trip. III). Bryn Athyn is new to the ACHA this season, after playing independent hockey previously. The rink is an outdoor facility with a roof, and is enclosed only on one side. I attended the December 4 home opener against Northern Virginia Community College. Because this is an outdoor rink, the home opener is this late in the season; although at game time the outside temperature was in the high 50's.
